There are several methods developed to measure the internal bond strength or peel strength of paper and paperboard. The most common are Scott-type internal bond forces, which are dynamic impact testing based on the energy stored when the pendulum is released. The second method is the tensile strength in the Z direction. ZDT measures the tensile strength of a sample sandwiched and compressed between two adhesive tapes. After compression, the sample is separated to determine the maximum tensile strength.
